Birthday Party

Great pictures, Rene!!! I laughed so hard! Funny... Except, it made me realize AGAIN, that I need to shed those couple extra lbs...

OK, so I've realized that I have sort of awekward relationship with Marty, not strong enough to ask him to come take family photos. I think it would be better if we utilized Rene's camera and asked someone more neutral to come take pictures. Maybe Uhrovi, since they have plenty of practice in taking pictures of our family, and thanks to them we have those few pictures from our childhood, that we would otherwise not have. That's my suggestion.

As far as the Birthday party, I would suggest fun atmosphere, with a little program. Easy enough to prepare, but memorable for our mom and the guests. After all, we are fun loving family, and we SHOULD have fun on this Birthday party. So, I would suggest some of the following:

- borrow from someone a microphone and a speaker or amplifier, so that when someone is speaking, we all can hear

- maybe have children learn a simple short poem in Czech (each child would only have a short sentence to learn) but we can still decide on that...

- have mom open presents and read cards out loud

- play a few games our mom would enjoy (i.e. food/beverage guessing - blindfolded: i can totally imagine our mom with a big grin on her face as she aces everything from a smoked tofu to a piece of pear or beet juice...) It's a lot harder to guess when you're blindfolded. We could have few women from the audience play that one. Then we could play something with anatomy in it, since there are so many girls in the family, who majored in health (including aunt Eva and Sasha, Anicka - if she comes) We could put posters of the body outline on the board, and then people would have to correctly mark different body parts. Also, we could play a game with few select people "How well do you know your... mom,sister,sister-in-law, grandma" where our mom would be the main subject, and people would have to correctly guess answers to questions for our mom (such as favorite color, etc.) I think we could get to know our mom a lot better through this game.

Anyway, those are just a few suggestions. I personally would enjoy more than a sit down dinner, and if we do take that route of fun over formal, who knows it may be refreshing for all of us and bring us closer together as a family and create memories we'll never forget.

If anybody else has ideas for games, please share them on here.

By the way, I've been pretty sick in the last few days. What seemed to be just allergies turned out to be full blown sinus infection, with cough and fever. The worst thing is, I was in charge of nursery A in an upcoming VBS (little babies), which I now won't be able to do. I feel horrible, I ate 2 small meals in the past 4 days and 3 apples. Other than that I drink all kinds of potions - anise, organic cold tea with echinacea and honey... Johnny bought me another 5 boxes of teas today at Wild Oats. I didn't have one little bit of sugar, and I drink a lot of water. I chose not to go to doctor this time, since the chiropractor told me that all the medications are doing us more harm than good... so, I am fighting. Please pray for me. I need to get better to be able to take care of my sick boys (who caught it from me), and also Johnny sounds like he's on a verge of getting sick too. But I feel that this really showed us that what we eat has influence on our health. So, as a quick reminder, we do have the recipe blog, and at this time, I would really appreciate any good tasting VEGAN recipes. Our boys can't have dairy products, and I am tired of cooking two separate things, plus Johnny and I both need to eat this too. It's very difficult for me, because every recipe that I know how to prepare has some dairy in it. I do have a big vegetarian cookbook (with substitution suggestions), but sometimes its better to have some good recipes in a pocket for the nights when you just don't feel like experimenting.

OK, talk to you all later...

Ika
